Wax Carving & Casting WEEKEND - Two Day Course
Wax carving is a fun way to create your own jewellery designs, with just a small selection of tools and kit required. Sculpt your designs in wax, ready to eventually cast them into silver or other metals, or resins.
This is a two day, in person, jewellery making course, held in Camden, London NW1.
Develop your jewellery making skills in this two day course. Carving in wax is a great way to create more three dimensional, sculptural forms for jewellery making. Wax models can be cast directly into metal as one off or multiples, or can be used to make moulds for use with resin or other materials.
This course runs from 10.30am to 5pm each day and allows students to complete the wax carving process for lost wax jewellery casting from start to finish - learning how to start to carve or model shapes, how to add details, prepare them for casting, and what to do to get your cast pieces ready to wear.
We will work through one or two projects and participants will learn; -
- How to plan out and start to think about shapes for carving, .
- How to work with cold working tools
- How to work with hot wax working tools
- How to polish and finish the wax ready for casting
- What to do with the cast metal to get it ready to wear
- We will also briefly discuss mould making and other casting options that are available.
Participants will make one finished piece (for example, a ring) ready to cast, and probably also test pieces and waxes that may be continued at home.
For day two of the course we will experiment with casting options suitable for doing at home or in a small workshop - selecting from delft clay (sand) casting, cuttlefish casting and water casting - students will have time to experiment as well as (if appropriate) to cast a silver version of their ring design from day 1.
Great for anyone who has already tried silver jewellery making, and would like to experiment with a different way of working, or for those with no jewellery experience at all yet.
Class held in person, in my studio in Camden, London NW1 - near Camden Town tube station.
**Workshop is downstairs and therefore not suitable if stairs are a problem for you - sorry!**
Can also be arranged as private 1-1 tuition, or if you have a group of friends that would like to come together!
Maximum class size of just 3 students - plenty of support and advice as a group and as individuals throughout the day.
