Beginners - Kumihimo Braiding for Jewellery
This full day class will introduce key skills to work with threads and beads to create your own necklaces, bracelets and cords.
Kumihimo is the Japanese art of braiding - this one day introduction course will work with braiding using a contemporary foam disk, as well as using a traditional Japanese Marudai (wooden braiding stool) to create your braids.
Threads are interlaced to create strong, decorative cords of different thicknesses, patterns and shapes. These can be used as cords for your own handmade silver pendants, for example, or used independently as a necklace or bracelet in their own right.
Students will create necklace/s and bracelet/s, learning how to securely fasten the ends and add clasps ready to wear home as well as to incorporate beads into the braids if desired.
Class size - maximum of 3 people
Class runs from 10am to 5pm - great for a girls day out or a special treat for a celebration - my workshop is in Camden Town which has hundreds of great cafes and shops to visit for your lunch, as well as the famous markets - also close to London Zoo and the British Museum!
This class is held in my Camden, central London, jewellery studio and runs roughly every other month, but additional dates can be added on request and also available as 1-1 private tuition at a date and time to suit you.
All materials needed are included in the price and your creations are of course yours to take home.
Tea, coffee, cold drinks and nibbles are available throughout.
Your lunch is not included - there will be a one hour lunch break where you can stretch your legs and explore the local area and cafes.
