Intermediate - Adding Gold Details - Keum Boo Course
This is a full day jewellery making class designed for intermediate students who have already been making silver jewellery either using traditional methods, or using silver clay.
I recommend taking at least my beginners silver, or beginners silver clay class (or another similar class) first, and ideally doing a little practice in your own time first before booking this class.
Keum Boo is a very ancient Korean technique that fuses pure gold leaf to silver. It is a great way to add colour to designs, especially if you love gold but don't want to splash out for solid gold.
The process uses pure gold foil that is cut to size / shape and then fused into your surface using a combination of heat and pressure.
We will cover; -
- Preparing your silver
- Buying and Working with the gold leaf
- Cutting shapes for your gold details
- Applying the gold to the silver
- Polishing and finishing pieces
- Using liver of sulphur to increase the colour contrast
There will be a selection of pre-cut silver blanks available to work with, as well as silver sheet that can be cut and formed to create pieces ready to add gold details onto so that we have plenty of time to work with cutting and applying the gold.
Students are also welcome to bring silver pendants or other items that are ready to add gold highlights to.
Class size - maximum of 3 people
Class runs from 10am to 5pm - with a one hour lunch break where you can visit one of the many local cafes.
**My workshop is downstairs, so unfortunately is not accessible if you have mobility issues / problems with stairs.**
This class is held in my Camden, central London, jewellery studio and runs roughly every other month, but additional dates can be added on request and the session is also available as 1-1 private tuition at a date and time to suit you.
All materials needed are included in the price and your creations are of course yours to take home.
Tea, coffee, cold drinks and nibbles are available throughout.
