Electroforming for Jewellery Class (Split over 2 days)
No dates currently available - face to face teaching is suspended while social distancing measures are recommended. Dates will be added again once the current emergency measures are lifted.
Learn how to use and set up a basic kit for electroforming small jewellery items, using copper.
Open to anyone - complete beginners or more experienced jewellers looking to add a new skill, and held in my workshop in Camden, London.
Electroforming is a process that is used to create a full or partial metal coating (in our case of copper) on non metallic objects. This creates a thick coating and electroformed pieces can be self supporting if the original form is later removed (although it doesn't have to be removed).
**This process is very closely related to, but is not electroplating - I do not teach plating techniques.**
This is a creative course to learn the basics of designing and creating unique, one off, jewellery using the electroforming process. Form unique jewellery items from any small found or natural objects - plastic toys, twigs, shells, nuts, gemstones and much more, or from pieces you have created (for example carved in wax, 3D printed, modelled in polymer clay), or by combining and collaging a combination of different elements.
The class runs over two sessions - half a day each, to allow time for the electroforming process to take place in-between. Part one will be preparing the objects and items for forming - designing, sealing and painting, then setting up the kit. Part two will be troubleshooting, how to store and maintain the kit, and finishing (polishing and refining) the completed pieces.
Class size - just 1 - 3 people
Class held in my Camden, central London, jewellery studio and runs from 10am to roughly 1.30pm on day 1, and then 2 to approx 5pm on day 2.
