Intermediate - Bezel Setting Gemstones
This is a full day jewellery making class focussed on creating bezel settings for cabochon stones - one way of creating simple but effective gemstone settings as part of your jewellery designs.
The day is designed for intermediate students who have already done some silver jewellery making. I recommend taking at least my beginners silver (or another similar class) first before booking this class.
Bezel settings are a great introduction to creating settings for round and shaped cabochon stones. Cabochon stones have flat backs and domed or gently faceted fronts - we will use round shapes to start with and then a teardrop shape.
We will cover; -
- Planning your design
- Choosing a stone and selecting your bezel strip
- Cutting and fine tuning your bezel setting
- Creating a basic setting, then moving on to create an open backed setting
- Soldering the setting into your design
- Preparing to set your stone in the tube
- Securing your stone into the setting
There will be a range of stones to choose from and we will make a pair of simple ring or pendant designs, with your stone setting as the main feature of the design. The first will be using a round shaped cabochon stone, the second will be a teardrop shaped stone.
Class size - maximum of 3 people
Class runs from 10am to 5pm - with a one hour lunch break where you can visit one of the many local cafes.
**My workshop is down stairs, so unfortunately is not accessible if you have mobility issues / problems with stairs.**
This class is held in my Camden, central London, jewellery studio and runs roughly every other month, but is also available as private tuition at a date and time to suit you.
All materials needed are included in the price and your creations are of course yours to take home.
Drinks and snacks are available throughout.
