Electroforming for Jewellery in Copper - 2 day course
This is a two day course introducing the process of electroforming for jewellery / jewellery scale items in copper.
Electroforming is the use of an electric current, through a chemical bath to build a metal (in our case - copper) surface onto a non-metal object. This can be a complete or partial covering - the images show examples of the set up and some of mine, and past students work.
The copper surface once completed and clean, can be further plated with other metals (e.g. silver or gold plated) if desired, at a later date.
This course runs over two consecutive days and has just two students at a time.
Specialist course - this course is designed for those who want to safely try out the technique and learn more about it before setting up their own tanks at home / in their own workspace - If students already have some craft / metalworking / jewellery making skills, they are likely to get more out of this course, but due to the extra small group size, it is also possible for dedicated beginners to take part too...
Students attend on the morning of day 1, and the afternoon of day 2. In between these sessions i will continue running the actual process, which is slow and needs regular checking to ensure everything is on track, but students aren't needed for this bit.
Day 1 - 10am to roughly 1.30pm
- Preparing / constructing items for electroforming, applying conductive paint, setting up the tanks (buckets) and current.
Day 2 - 2pm to roughly 5pm
- Closing down the tanks for storage, removing the pieces, checking, sanding and polishing as needed, discussion of brush plating and other surface treatments for the items
Students can expect to create between 2-6 items over this course - the limiting factor is the size of the pieces (they must all fit together hanging into one bucket) and their complexity to prepare (we only have the one morning for item preparation).
Students are welcome to bring their own items - found items work well, so do 3D printed, or wax models, or you can choose from my wide selection of shells, crystals and random fun bits and bobs to work with...
This class is held in my Camden, central London, jewellery studio - this is close to both Camden Town tube station and Camden Road overground station.
The workshop is down stairs on the lower ground floor, so if you have trouble manoeuvring stairs, then do get in touch before booking.
This course runs only rarely, but it is also available as private tuition at a date and time to suit you, or a group of friends.
All materials needed are included in the price and your jewellery is of course yours to take home, wear, and show off.
