Kumihimo - Japanese Braiding - One Day Workshop
No dates currently available - face to face teaching is suspended while social distancing measures are recommended. Dates will be added again once the current emergency measures are lifted.
Learn how to create beautiful textile or beaded cords using this fascinating Japanese braiding technique.
Suitable for complete beginners as well as more experienced students - due to the small group size, this one day class is flexible to suit the students involved, their interests and levels of experience.
Students will all have the chance to learn how to set up and use a traditional Marudai (braiding stool), and can choose whether to continue using this, or swap to working on a contemporary foam disk, which is a portable version of this stool.
We will work on at least 2 or 3 braid structures during the day.
Beginners will start with a simple round braid on a disk, more advanced students will be supported to learn more complex braids, either learning new structures, working with more tama (bobbins) or by incorporating decorative elements such as beads.
Students can choose to create either one or more finished braids, or a selection of sample lengths; securely and neatly finishing the braids will also be covered.
Suitable for anyone - both jewellers or braiders who are already familiar with some Kumihimo techniques, or those completely new to this form of braiding.
