Getting Started with Wax Carving - Two Day Course
No dates currently available - face to face teaching is suspended while social distancing measures are recommended. Dates will be added again once the current emergency measures are lifted.
Develop your jewellery making skills in this two day introductory class. Carving in wax is a great way to create more three dimensional forms for jewellery making.
This course runs over two consecutive Sundays and allows students to complete the wax carving process for lost wax jewellery casting from start to finish - learning how to start to carve or model shapes in the first session and then to work with to finish the cast silver piece ready for wearing during the second session.
We will work through at least two separate projects and participants will learn; -
How to plan out and start to think about shapes for carving, .
How to work with cold working tools
How to work with hot wax working tools
How to polish and finish the wax ready for casting
What to do with the cast metal to get it ready to wear
We will also discuss mould making and other casting options that are available.
Participants will make one finished piece (for example, a ring) cast and finished in silver, and a series of test pieces and waxes that may be continued or cast at a later date.
Great for anyone who has already tried silver jewellery making, and would like to experiment with a different way of working, or for those with no jewellery experience at all yet.
