Penny creates tactile talismans; jewellery made in silver, combined with other materials, designed to be held and played with. Alternative and minimal in style – subtly detailed as a new take on traditional ideas.
With a BA (Loughborough,1999) and a MA (The Cass, London Metropolitan University, 2015) In jewellery and silversmithing, Penny Akester has been fascinated by the processes involved in creating jewellery for many, many years, loving the versatility of styles and materials available to jewellery artists.
Currently teaching jewellery making at several centres around London as well as privately, she continues to create one or two exclusive collections of jewellery for sale each year.
Inspired by the particularly tactile nature of jewellery, and its potential as a subtly therapeutic tool to calm and reduce stress or anxiety, her jewellery is designed to intriguing both the eyes and the fingers.
